St. James's Place Foundation

Our Fundraising

The St. James's Place Foundation is a grant making charity that is unique in the way it is funded with funds either donated or raised by employees and Partners, as well as pound for pound matching from the company and its shareholders. Over 80% of the St. James's Place Community give regular monthly donations through their pay or earnings. Every Partner and employee is also encouraged to play an active role in fundraising events that raise anything from a few hundred pounds, to hundreds of thousands of pounds.

2010 was another record breaking year, with funds raised exceeding £2.7m, (including matching). This brings the total raised to over £20m which is a huge achievement by our Partners and staff.

Every year Partners and employees take part in sponsored events such as tandem skydiving, triathlons, marathons and Ironman challenges.

Individual Challenges

In 2009 Principal Partner Simon Fleet and Senior Partner Ian Jamieson successfully took part in two extreme challenges overseas and raised a combined £40,000 for the Foundation including Company matching. Simon completed the Jungle Marathon in Brazil a total of 100 miles in dense Jungle and Ian completed Ironman USA in Mount Placid.

In June 2011 Partner Robert Carr undertook the formidable challenge of running in the Thames Ring 250 mile Race. It is the UK's longest ever non-stop running race, covering the equivalent of 10 marathons in 100 hours (4 days!) and he managed to raise over £2,000 for the Foundation. Robert completed the race in 86 hours and finished seventh out of a field of 37 competitors.

Charity Balls

St. James's Place and its Partners have hosted several Charity Balls during 2009 and 2010 to raise money for the Foundation. The Dare to Dream Ball, held at the Billingsgate, London in 2009 raised £500,000 thanks to the efforts of Partners David Moran and Lesley Belcher. In 2010, a Cirencester Summer Ball hosted by Louise Beard and Julie White raised £16,000, and a St. James's Place Moulin Rouge spectacular, arranged by Janine Edwards, Senior Partner, raised £20,000 thanks to the generosity of guests on the night.

Mountain Climb Challenges

In 2008, senior manager, Roger Owen led 14 aspirant mountaineers from within St. James's Place to successfully climb Mont Blanc, at 15,775ft the highest point in Europe raising over £245,000 for the Foundation including Company matching. In 2012, Roger will lead a team of 40 Partners and employees in the ascent to Everest Base Camp, with Roger himself continuing on to the Peak, in aid of the Foundation.

Events in 2010

The challenges during 2010 include two well supported annual events: the Ten Tors Challenge across Dartmoor and a Sprint Triathlon held in St Albans in aid of the charity Hope and Homes for Children. These two fundraising events have raised £300,000 and over a £1m respectively including Company matching.

Over 90 Partners and employees of St. James's Place cycled from London to Paris raising in excess of £250,000 (including Company matching) with a percentage of the proceeds going to support the Urban Stars Project and the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.
