Our History
The St. James's Place Wealth Management Group was established in 1991, under the name of the J. Rothschild Assurance Group, by Mike Wilson, Sir Mark Weinberg and Lord Rothschild.
St. James's Place was floated on the stock market in 1997 and its market capitalisation places it within the FTSE 250 Index and it is highly regarded within the industry.
In June 2000 HBoS, a 'Top Ten' FTSE 100 Company, took a 60% shareholding in St. James's Place.
With effect from 9 May 2006, St. James's Place Capital was renamed St. James's Place plc. This was due to the fact that the Board had disposed of all its non-core investments, so they felt it was appropriate to remove the word 'Capital' from the company name.
In January 2009, HBoS plc merged with Lloyds TSB to form Lloyds Banking Group plc. Lloyds Banking Group plc now owns a 60% shareholding in St. James's Place.
