David has worked in the financial services industry since 1973. He joined the Founders of the Company at the outset to establish the back office. Since then he has held a number of roles at St. James’s Place, including Group Operations Director and Managing Director. He joined the Board in 1997 and was appointed Chief Executive in 2007. He is a Trustee of the St. James’s Place Foundation and a member of the Financial Conduct Authority’s Practitioner Panel.
Chief Financial Officer
Andrew joined the Company in 1993 and has been Chief Financial Officer since 2004. Having trained as an Accountant with Deloitte Haskins and Sells (now part of PricewaterhouseCoopers) Andrew then worked in the Financial Services sector, joining the Company in 1993. Since then he has held a number of roles within the Finance department, assuming the role of Finance Director in 2002. He is a Trustee of the St. James’s Place Foundation and a lay member of the Audit, Risk & Investment Committees of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Andrew qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1988, and has a degree in Accounting and Economics from Southampton University.
David is Managing Director with responsibility for Private Client, International and Discretionary Fund Management business and the Group’s investment business including the fund range. He has worked in the financial sector since 1979. He joined the Company in 1992 and was appointed to the Board in 2007. David has significant experience in wealth management, together with investment and portfolio management. He is chair of the Investment Committee and a Trustee of St. James’s Place Foundation. David is a non-executive director of The Henderson Smaller Companies Investment Trust plc. He is also governor of the University of the West of England. David is a graduate of City University, London, and a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.
Ian is Managing Director responsible for the management and development of the Partnership. He has worked in the financial services industry since 1986. He joined the Company in 1991 and was appointed to the Board in 2003. Ian has considerable experience in the financial advisory space. He is a Trustee of the St. James’s Place Foundation and a member of the Strategic Advisory Board of Loughborough University Business School. Ian has a degree from Lancaster University and an MA from Leicester University.
Sarah joined the Board as an independent Non-executive Director in 2004 and was appointed Chairman on 1 January 2014. She is also chairman of the Nomination Committee. Sarah has over thirty years’ valuable experience from the investment and investment management sectors. She is Chairman of J.P. Morgan American Investment Trust plc, and Witan Pacific Investment Trust. Sarah is also a non-executive director of Worldwide Healthcare and Polar Capital Technology Trust plc. She is chairman of the St. Joseph’s Hospice Investment Panel. She is a member of the investment committee of the Universities Superannuation Fund, and served as chairman of the Association of Investment Companies from 2011 to 2015. Sarah has a BA (Hons) from Trinity Hall, Cambridge University in Law and an MBA from the London Business School.
Senior Independent Director
Iain was appointed to the Board as a Non-executive Director in 2011 and became Senior Independent Director and Chair of the Risk Committee on 1 January 2014. He is also a member of the Audit and Nomination Committees. Iain brings board and senior management experience from both the financial and regulatory environments having been a senior consultant at KPMG, specialising in the banking and finance sector, and then serving as chief executive of the Yorkshire Building Society. In recent years Iain has been an independent director of the Prudential Regulation Authority (from February 2013 to 1 April 2015) and a member of the FSA Practitioner Panel (from 2007 to 2011, becoming chairman in 2009). Iain is currently chairman of Shawbrook Group plc and a non-executive director of Arrow Global Group plc.
Roger was appointed to the Board as an independent Non-executive Director on 1 January 2014 and is Chair of the Remuneration Committee. He is also a member of the Audit and Risk Committees. Roger brings over 30 years of investment management experience, having started his career with GT Management Limited in 1981 and subsequently holding positions at Morgen Grenfell, Invesco and Henderson Group plc, where he was chief executive officer. Most recently, Roger was Chairman of Electra Private Equity plc and a non-executive director of IG Holdings plc. Roger is currently non-executive chairman of Pioneer Global Asset Management S.p.A. and non-executive director of J.P. Morgan Elect plc.
Simon was appointed to the Board as an independent Non-executive Director on 1 January 2014 and is Chair of the Audit Committee. He is also a member of the Risk and Remuneration Committees. Simon brings experience of the auditing world and financial services, having been a senior audit partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP from 1986 to 2006, where he also led their Global Investment Management practice. Between 2006 and 2014, Simon was Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer at Fidelity International and was then Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer at the Wellcome Trust. Simon is currently chairman of AON UK Limited, non-executive director and chair of the audit committees of Henderson International Income Trust plc and and SimCorp A/S, a listed Danish financial services software company, and non-executive director of Templeton Emerging Market Investment Trust plc. Simon has a B.Com (Hons) from the University of Cape Town and is a UK FCA, a SA CA and a US CPA.
Baroness Wheatcroft was appointed to the Board as an independent Non-executive Director in April 2012 and is a member of the Risk, Remuneration and Nomination Committees. She brings experience of the media and also the legislature, having been Editor-in-Chief at the Wall Street Journal, Europe, a former Editor of The Sunday Telegraph, and Business and City Editor of The Times. Her financial services experience includes previous appointments as a non-executive director of Barclays Group plc and Shaftesbury plc. Baroness Wheatcroft is a member of the House of Lords and is currently non-executive director of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. She is also chairman of the Financial Times Appointments Committee and Oversight. Baroness Wheatcroft has a Law Degree from Birmingham University and an Honorary Doctorate from City University.
Sir Mark founded the St. James's Place Group with Mike Wilson and Lord Rothschild in 1991 and was Chairman of the company until September 2004, when he resigned from the Board and was appointed President of the company. He chaired the Investment Committee until July 2011. Sir Mark originally practised as a barrister and was formerly Deputy Chairman of the Securities and Investments Board, the forerunner to the Financial Conduct Authority. He is Chairman of the Pension Corporation and of Synergy Insurance.
Mike has worked in the financial services industry since 1963 and founded the St. James's Place Group with Sir Mark Weinberg in 1991. He was Chief Executive until September 2004 and was Chairman of the company until December 2011, when he resigned from the Board. Mike is a director of the St. James's Place Foundation and was formerly Chairman of the Mental Health Foundation.
