In an era where financial literacy and sound investment decisions are crucial, the role of financial advisers has become increasingly significant. Recognising the need to educate a new generation of skilled financial professionals, the St. James's Place Financial Adviser Academy ran their first session with London Institute of Banking & Finance (LIBF) students in May.

This collaboration reiterates the Academy's commitment to nurturing talent showcases the numerous benefits that arise from such collaborations.

One of the primary motivations is to promote an understanding of financial advice to the next generation of talent that will join the profession in the future. Through this collaboration, aspiring professionals are provided with a unique opportunity to gain valuable insights into the opportunities available to them. The session brought to life the role of a financial adviser and what a day in the life of practicing as one is like.

The working relationship between the Academy and LIBF is designed to bridge the gap between an initial understanding of the role itself and the pathways available to becoming a financial adviser. By providing a comprehensive session on the financial advice profession, this collaboration aims to empower aspiring professionals with the necessary skills, knowledge, and ethical principles required to succeed in a rapidly evolving financial landscape. The benefits of this working relationship extend far beyond the classroom, offering participants networking opportunities and mentorship, bridging the gap between theory and practice, and ensuring a brighter future for the financial advice profession.

Nicola Barker (Senior Academy Development Manager) said: “I feel so privileged to have spent time on LIBF’s campus with the students. It was such a positive, insightful experience and it was great to hear the thoughts and questions of such bright and talented individuals. Their passion for their future careers was evident and it provided me with such a great platform to equally share my passion for the financial advice profession, which surprisingly continues to be a largely unknown career choice.”

The event showcased how organisations can work collaboratively for the benefit of profession as a whole. John Somerville, Head of Financial Services at the London Institute of Banking & Finance said “it was an absolute pleasure to host our friends from St James’ Place. The synergies that exist between our organisations means that we can help mould the skills, knowledge and culture of the next generation of financial experts coming into the industry. The UK is in need of a diverse and motivated set of individuals for the future and to put on an evening with such high-quality content is vital for aspiring people wanting to further their careers in this area. I know that they got an extremely positive experience and a huge thankyou to the whole team at SJP for putting so much effort into this event”

Further LIBF events will be run later in 2023 and 2024. The collaboration between the St. James's Place Financial Adviser Academy and LIBF serves as a testament to both inspiring the next generation of financial advisers and raising awareness about the profession as a fantastic place to build a career.
