SJP What is ongoing advice?

Ongoing advice is the support you receive from your St. James’s Place adviser over a period of time, helping you keep your financial plan on track and feel more confident about your financial future.

When you first become a client, your adviser takes time to understand your circumstances, goals and needs, as well as your knowledge and experience of investing, and your attitude to risk. They use this to create a financial plan that is personal to you.

Over time, your life may change. You may start a family, change jobs, retire, receive an inheritance or face an unexpected challenge. Changes in the economy or investment markets can also affect your plans.

Ongoing reviews of your financial plan help make sure it continues to reflect your circumstances, what matters most to you, and the future you want to achieve. During a review, your adviser will look at whether your plan is still on track, consider how your investments are performing, and advise whether any changes may be needed.

This support also means you have someone available to speak to if something unexpected happens, or if you have a question about your finances.

Over the longer term, this relationship can help give you confidence and reassurance to stay focused on your financial plans and goals, even when markets or personal circumstances change. An ongoing relationship with an adviser also helps to identify risks or opportunities, supporting you in making informed decisions.

Ongoing advice helps to keep your financial plan aligned with your needs, goals and the future you want.

“95% of people who receive ongoing professional advice say it helps them stay on track with their goals.”

Chief Executive Officer, St. James's Place

Clients not receiving ongoing financial advice

If you are not receiving ongoing advice from an SJP Partner, your investments will remain invested and you will continue to pay the fund and product charges on your account for the management of your investments and the administration of your account.

Without ongoing advice, your financial plan will not be reviewed to ensure it remains suitable and continues to meet your needs and objectives. If you hold multiple investments or pension plans, you may wish to consider whether additional financial planning could help you make the most of available tax allowances and exemptions.

The St. James’s Place Guarantee covers the suitability of advice provided by members of the St. James’s Place Partnership when recommending wealth management products and services. If you are not receiving ongoing advice from an SJP Partner, the Guarantee will not apply to decisions you make yourself. Further information about the St. James’s Place Guarantee is available here.

If you are not receiving ongoing financial advice, but wish to make changes to your plans such as top ups, fund switches, withdrawals or administrative updates please contact our dedicated team on 0800 027 1031.
