SJP Invest for the future

On 23rd April we joined 19 other leading firms in financial services to launch the UK Retail Investment Campaign – Invest for the future. This is a landmark initiative set to change how Britons think about investing their money for long-term financial success.

The campaign marks a moment of unity across the industry and is supported by His Majesty’s Treasury (HMT), the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS), with the trade body, the Investment Association (IA) coordinating the first initiative of this kind.

“Recent behavioural research we conducted with Ipsos shows many people want to invest, but too often feel uncertain about taking that first step. That’s why it’s so important for us to come together as an industry: to build confidence, raise awareness, and support greater participation in investing across the UK.”

Investing for the future

We all have long-term goals and aspirations but getting there can be a struggle. Savings may feel safe but the value of our money is under pressure from inflation. It may be squirreled away but is it truly growing? Investing is not without risks, but through it people have more potential to build more.

Many considering investing can feel uncertain about this step. We all know how a bank account works but investing can feel complex and foreign. Geopolitical events, such as what is happening today, can make this feel even more uncertain. However, history shows us that stock markets bounce back and over the long-term, events such as those we see today become more muted.

Just look at the past 20 years. Over that time frame we have experienced a global financial crisis, rising interest rates, a pandemic, Russia/Ukraine war and US tariffs. And yet £10,000 invested in global equities (the MSCI World index) in March 2006 would be worth around £60,000 by March 2026. Cash (Bank of England rate) would have turned that £10,000 into around £15,000 over the same time frame.

The value of an investment with St. James's Place will be directly linked to the performance of the funds you select and the value can therefore go down as well as up. You may get back less than you invested.
